StartUp Monday: Flipboard

Startup Monday is ABCey’s weekly post that features some of the best and brightest companies in the Bay Area. They are often companies that we have our eye on or have worked with in the past & would like to share with friends and followers of ABCey events

This StartUp Monday we are featuring the best social news magazine app Flipboard! Flipboard allows the user to collect and share news articles that they are interested in and create their personalized online magazine. Instead of searching several different news websites or blogs, everything is curated into one simple individualized feed.

We also love that Flipboard has articles from major news networks such as BBC and very specific interest sites like BizBash for event planning tips. Flipboard makes it super easy for us at ABCey to keep up to date with all the latest event industry trends in one place!

Flipboard_two_imgs-1

How It Works: Flipboard is a simple and super easy to use app for all of your daily reading pleasure! Once downloaded, the user will start by picking a few topics they are interested in and sign into their social media sites so that all their newsfeed updates will be listed. Once completed, the user will be directed to the “Table of Contents” which has four separate sections: things you follow, cover stories, content guide, and search. Even if you are lost on what to read, Flipboard’s content guide has tons of recommendations on top stories. After the user is set up, they can add and scroll through their personal magazine to curate articles they want to read!

Flipboard-Update-8-29-12

Why It’s Great: Once the user finds an article they want to read, it is added to their personal online magazine and the pages flip in the same magazine way!  The style gives the reader the sense that they are reading a full magazine, instead of only reading selected articles based on their interest.

Will you be using Flipboard in the future for your daily reading updates?! Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook and Twitter!

Tech Tuesday: 3 New Event Management Tools

Tech Tuesday highlights the best and brightest ideas in the tech world. ABCey would like to recognize these up and coming technologies for their innovative ideas and impact on the event world!

At ABCey Events, we are always looking for the newest technologies to create a more effective way to manage events. As the event industry continues to evolve, there are more and more companies popping up that will further innovate the planning process. We’d like to share our Top 3 Event Management tools that can help bring your event to the next level!

Screen Shot 2014-07-14 at 2.14.30 PM

1. Eventomize | The online program Eventomize relieves the stress of organizing every aspect of your event company by automating the scheduling process. When your business is commissioned to work an event, simply enter the number and type of staff needed. The program schedules upcoming events within the company and specifically lists what type of servers, bartenders, or master’s of ceremonies are needed. The boss can specifically request individuals to see the job offer, or it can be available to everyone on the company profile. Individuals can then respond electronically to the event and find out all the details needed in order to work and best represent your company!

2. Grenadine Event Planner | When planning a conference or convention, it can get tricky keeping track of all the complex scheduling that goes into an event! Grenadine Events is a cloud-based platform that allows planners to keep track of everything in one simple place — from participant scheduling, logistical updates, and communication with attendees via email updates. Once the event gets going, the platform provides the planning team dynamic reports of the event venue to prevent issues from happening. We also love that Grenadine Events has branded mobile apps for both iOS and Android devices!

Goombal Spend Analytics

3. Goombal | Here is the latest event management system that keeps everything you need to run your event in the best possible shape! When using Goombal it quickly generates a list of detailed reports to manage your event — from budget and expense reports, staffing reports, and tech reports — the program has it all. It is available both online and on mobile devices for the busy planners on the move!

Social Media Do’s & Don’ts for Conferences!

Here at ABCey we understand the importance of using Social Media for events! It can create better brand awareness and provides great marketing without too much hassle. However, if used in the wrong manner social media can actually hurt your event  messaging! That is why we are bringing you our tips in order to make social media the not-so-silent star of your next event!

BTC-social-networking-post

Do: Create Compelling Messaging | One of the most crucial parts of social media for conferences is to understand the mindset of the “perfect” attendee. You should brainstorm very specific details such as: age, gender, their goal of the conference, and which trade sites they follow. After completing this exercise every Facebook post, tweet, or photo shared should be done with this ideal attendee in mind!

socialoomph

Don’t: Tweet & Run | When planning a conference it is especially important to constantly keep attendees updated with all information and changes. If a conference goes silent it could loose guest engagement or worse, attendees! So keep your social media platform constant with Tweetdeck or Social OOmph to automate your postings! However, make sure to mix automated posts with those written in real time to keep it from looking too spammy!

sxsw-2014

Do: Vivid Graphics | Whether planning a conference or company party there should always be a single vivid image that is used. It is also especially important to have this graphic ready to go well in advance for it to be used on guest and press invitations, website, and all related social media postings. This SXSW flier is a great example of creating a unique image that will remind guests and translates the message well between differing social media sites.

meaningconference_co_uk

Don’t: Abandon Accounts | A simple mistake that we see over and over with conferences is the abandonment of websites and social media between events. Your “perfect” attendee demands engagement all year long from their conferences and a platform with old information will not benefit anyone! A simple fix is to create a year-long content strategy for your social media sites so that everyone knows what’s happening ahead of time.

Screen Shot 2014-07-01 at 2.26.37 PM

Do: Social Media Displays | During any given conference there are many different attendee touch points that can both benefit the conference and attendees. Creating a “Social Media Hub” display where all social media platforms convene in one place where everyone can see is important. It allows guests to engage with other attendees while sharing the happenings across the venue space! We especially love Tint and Eventstagram for live display feeds!

How To: Upgrade Your Outdoor Event!

Everyone loves a great party and the girls at ABCey are no different! This season why not think outside the box when planning your next get together? We are bringing the typical outdoor party to the next level — by blending a few tech gadgets and a few old fashioned entertaining tricks together to help you create a spectacular event!

30e3027cdea8494c422929b8a07950f81. The Menu | Instead of leaving your guests in the dark about their dinner throughout cocktail hour, we suggest creating a chalkboard menu! We love that this menu is framed and set in the garden, which gives off a laid-back atmosphere. If you are looking on how-to’s to write with chalk like a pro, check out these classes offered at The Makery!

dd7e08412723b2505ef941636afcd8962. Guilt Free Food | Phillips AirFryer | $330 | Meet the next star of your dinner parties! Everyone loves French fries, but no one enjoys the extra oils and calories that come with the delicious food. The AirFryer is similar to a slow cooker, but uses hot air and minimal oil to circulate throughout the cooking process. It has preset temperature control and a timer to allow cooking up to 390 degrees for healthier items! It’s also great since you can leave it to cook, while mingling with guests!

4f7bcff3b6956ea95cde898dbce14cef3. Mix & Match Materials | This drink cart highlights a few great summer entertaining tricks all in one! By mixing plastic glassware, glass vases, and the silver drink holder it adds dimension to the cart and allows the guest’s eye wander throughout the space. This cart even gets bonus points for the pop of color it will add to the greenery in the yard!

855317p_alt14. Specialty Cocktails | Perfect Drink Maker | $69.95 | This gadget gives the user real-time bartending advice as it connects to the free app on the owner’s smart device! It includes hundreds of drink recipes and allows the bartender to watch on their smartphone the exact amount of each liquid needed for the drink. This is such a fun idea, and we know how much guests love to be introduced to unique drinks!

ABC.35. Out of the Box Themes | Summer is a catch-all for themes at parties, and we love the idea of changing the tone. Instead of planning a regular barbecue, we suggest planning an event with an unique theme such as Artisan & Craft. Introduce your guests to local beer and cheese pairings while enjoying a laid-back evening. We can’t think of a better get-together!

Which idea would you implement in your next outdoor party? There are tons of ways to enhance the standard barbecue and we would love to hear your ideas too! Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook and Twitter!

Tech Tuesday: 3 Apps to Engage Conference Goers

Tech Tuesday highlights the best and brightest ideas in the tech world. ABCey would like to recognize these up and coming companies for their innovative ideas and ability to think outside the box!

As #eventprofs, we understand that one of the major goals of conference planning is attendee engagement! Whether it be before the conference begins, during the Q&A, or a post-event evaluation; we must continue to elevate the experience. We’ve found 3 great new apps that will help increase engagement for your conference throughout!

topi_all

Before:  Topi | During large conferences, it can be daunting to look around a convention center without knowing many individuals. At events, Topi is synced to include the individuals attending the conference and split people into different categories. Before the guests arrive on site, they will have access to the Topi app to identify the most relevant individuals attending. The app allows guests to expand networks and be better prepared to meet others!

Crowd-Mics-Logo-_cropDuring:  Crowd Mics | Suddenly the long Q&A session at the end of a speaker session no longer seems as dreadful! Crowd Mics is an app that will turn a smartphone into a portable microphone that can be heard through a room’s sound system. It also has the ability for text commenting, for those individuals less willing to share. We love how Crowd Mics is engaging audiences and creating greater interaction between guests and speakers!

imgresAfter: waggl | One tough issue we face as event planners is gaining feedback from conference attendees post event! This new app allows planners to pose a question to guests, who can then respond on mobile devices. Once an attendee anonymously responds to the question, they can vote on responses by other guests to the same question. As more votes are tallied to the question, a leaderboard is formed to show the top 5 responses to the initial question. This type of feedback will garner new insights for the future as guests are able to give responses in a fast and helpful manner!

How do you see these apps helping attendee engagement?! Let us know in the comments below, or on Facebook and Twitter
